Re-invisioned Logo
Zenni Rebrand
This project explores the rebranding of Zenni Optical because they are a company that I really appreciate. I love their mission to make quality eyewear affordable to everyone while also allowing it to be expressive and fun.
I wanted to update their logo while maintaining the original’s essence. To me the original gives the illusion of how a person in need of glasses might read letters. As glasses are their main product, I felt this was a fun and clever nod to the usefullness of their brand. When reinvisioning the logo I enjoyed playing with broken letter forms similar to the original like those in the original, however, my aim was to make the re-invisioned logo more legible. I experimented with motion within the logo as well, connecting and disconnecting the broken letter forms to mimic how one in need of corrective lenses might view letters with and without their glasses.
“Eyewear for every you” is a tagline they have used in the past, more recently they have updated this tagline to be: “Eyewear for everyone”. I like this update as it highlights one of the main pillars of this company: you don’t have to break the bank to have quality eyewear. However, in my vision for Zenni’s rebrand, I wanted to bring back the original version of this tagline as well. First, because though “Eyewear for everyone” is an admirable trait, as a stand alone it can also seem to send a message that lacks originality or uniqueness. As self-expression is another main pillar of this brand, this isn’t a message that I think they’d want to send, especially as it is innacurate. Zenni glasses
are unique! I think the inclusion of the original tagline sends this message well: Zenni is so affordable you have the opportunity to own more than one pair of glasses, you can have a pair for every YOU that there is. In using these two similar taglines in tandem, I think their is an opportunity to highlight Zenni’s two largest selling points in a simple and straighforward manner. I played with the use of the original tagline in poster/ad design as well as in a motion graphic using images of Rashida Jones who partnered with Zenni during their “Eyewear for every you” campaign.
